KUALA LUMPUR − New Malaysian Football League (MFL) president Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan is determined to propel the Malaysia League (M-League) to a higher level despite the uncertainties and challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
To achieve that, he said he would first have to ensure that the current M-League, namely the Super League and Premier League matches, could be completed as scheduled, besides making sure the upcoming Malaysia Cup and Challenge Cup could be run smoothly.
“For next year, my target is that apart from ensuring the smooth running of the M-League, Malaysia Cup and Challenge Cup, the FA Cup can also be held again,” he said in his first press conference as the MFL president that was held virtually.
He explained that attention would also be given to the financial aspect by striving to get as many sponsorships as possible for the smooth running of the league next season.
Ab Ghani was chosen as the new MFL president on Monday, replacing Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin, who resigned. Hamidin is also the president of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).
Following his appointment, Ab Ghani had to relinquish his post as MFL chief executive officer. However, he will continue to be the acting CEO until a new person is appointed.
Ab Ghani, who became a member of the MFL Board of Directors in April 2019, is the fourth MFL president after the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim and Hamidin.
Ab Ghani was earlier appointed CEO of the MFL in March last year after being acting CEO since December 2019 following the resignation of Kevin Ramalingam. – Bernama, August 19, 2021
