AN overconfident Conor McGregor paid a heavy price after he was knocked out by Dustin Poirier on Fight Island.
McGregor looked set to return to the world of boxing at the start of the year after announcing he would have a rematch with Poirier at UFC 257 but that loss put paid to a potential US$100million (RM423 million) scrap with Manny Pacquiao.
Having had knocked out Poirier at their previous meeting, McGregor was confident he could repeat the feat before the big money match with the Filipino.
The announcement for the big fight was just a week away from McGregor's stunning loss. But now those plans have been put on hold despite the fact that Pacquiao had already put pen to paper for the fight.
It was a result no one expected and literally tore up McGregor's plans for 2021.
The Irishman is currently recovering from a broken leg sustained in his trilogy fight against Poirier and remains sidelined for the foreseeable future.
