MANCHESTER United striker Cristiano Ronaldo sent a message of support to Danny Hodgson, an English striker with ECU Joondalup in Western Australia, who was critically injured in an unprovoked attack.
“Hi Danny, I just hear about your history, I hope you get well soon,” Ronaldo said in a video. “I invite you to come to one of [our'] games in Manchester, so get well soon my friend. Take care.”
Hodgson turned 26 on Sunday but had little to celebrate as he is still in a coma at the Royal Perth Hospital after being struck from behind on September 4 as he was walking to a train station.
Emergency surgery was performed and is currently in a critical but stable condition.
This vile attack has sparked an outpour of rage and support in Australia and the United Kingdom.
The incident had not gone unnoticed by the footballing fraternity as Hodgson's former Carlisle United teammate and current Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson had highlighted his plight.
Henderson messaged his former teammate. “Stay strong, stay in there, you’ll get through this, I promise.
“I know how hard you are and you’ll be fine.
“I can’t wait to get you over to a [Manchester United] game and meet the boys. I’ve told them all about you and we’re all in your corner ... we just wish you all the very best.”
Manchester City too have sent a message of support.
Hodgson's club will play Perth Glory on Tuesday as a fundraiser for him.
The parents of Hodgson who have flown to Perth and are now under quarantine said they are overwhelmed by the support shown by several quarters in this very challenging period. - Agencies, September 20, 2021
