CHICAGO - Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president, Dana White, had this to say regarding the first pitch from former two-division UFC champion, Conor McGregor, during the Chicago Cubs vs. Minnesota Twins Major League baseball game on Tuesday when ‘The Notorious’ whiffed hard and over-extended on the throw, nearly striking a bystander.
“Let me start here: Do you know how many times I’ve been asked to throw a first-pitch somewhere? And I’ll never do it. Never,” Dana said at the Jim Rome Show yesterday.
“Just like all those guys who think they can fight, guys think they can throw a baseball to home plate. It’s a lot harder than it looks.”
When asked about Conor’s potential return to the Octagon after the former UFC champ broke his leg in a fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July, Dana said it’s all about the recovery timeline.
“This kid needs to heal up,” Dana said. “I don’t know how fast that leg is going to recover. It’s basically going to be all about when can he start kicking again and, more importantly, when can he start taking kicks again. That will determine when he fights again.”
Dustin, who was awarded a first-round technical knockout (TKO) after the leg break, fought Conor McGregor inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 10. – Agencies, September 23, 2021
