KUALA LUMPUR – National speedster Jazeman Jaafar’s second race in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) did not go as planned.
In the second round of the series, the racers took to the track at the historic Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, Italy.
Unfortunately, the four-hour race ended prematurely for Team Virage as their car driven by Frenchman Gabriel Aubrey went off track in the third hour of the race.
While attempting an overtake, Aubrey made slight contact with TDS Racing X Vaillante racer Philippe Cimadomo in car number 31, causing Aubrey to spin off, hit the wall and end up in the gravel.
Despite the early end, Jazeman took the positives out of the unlucky race.
“It was very special to be racing at an iconic track like Imola.
“We proved to be one of the quickest cars on track today as I managed to place the car in the second position from seventh,” he told media.
The ELMS troupe will remain in Italy for the third round taking place in Monza which is scheduled on July 3.
“I am excited to bounce back in Monza which I know my team and I can bring back strong results,” the 29-year-old added.
Meanwhile, Team Virage echoed Jazeman’s outlook on the unfortunate end to the race.
“Tough day for Team Virage.
“We will take with us the positives from the weekend and have full focus on the next race weekend in Monza,” they said.
In the first race, Jazeman along with Aubrey and American Rob Hodes finished the first round of ELMS at Le Castellet, France in 15th place.
This weekend, Jazeman will be competing in the GT World Challenge Asia with Johor Motorsports Racing Team at Sepang International Circuit (SIC).
The Malaysian Championship series, Caterham Championship, and Vios Sprint Cup will also be taking place at SIC from May 20 to 23. – The Vibes, May 18, 2022.
