KUALA LUMPUR – International gaming developer Moonton Games has announced a collaboration with the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) and Esports Integrated (ESI) for the upcoming 2022 Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Southeast Asia Cup (MSC).

Held for the first time in Malaysia at the International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) from June 11 to 19, the competition is in line with KBS’s Strategic Plan for Esports Development 2020-2025 to catalyse a vibrant and inclusive esports ecosystem and support regional tournaments.

Speaking at a press conference at the ESI Hub, Spacerubix in Puchong today, KBS minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said Malaysia has produced many talented esports professionals who have flourished in international and local competitions.

“MSC 2022 will help propel Malaysia’s esports ecosystem to new heights, well in line with our vision as a vibrant esports hub to nurture our locals to become world-renowned esports athletes,” he said.

He also added that the ministry is in the midst of finalising guidelines for esports.

Previously, KBS deputy minister Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker said the guidelines, which were being drafted in collaboration with the relevant agencies and ministries as well as players and professional teams, is expected to be launched this year.

Also speaking at the event was Moonton Games marketing lead for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Malaysia Fikri Rizal Mahruddin, who said it was an honour to host MSC in the homeland of the game.

“Malaysia is the birthplace of MPL. We have made several inroads with MPL Malaysia over the last few years and are confident of our local athletes’ ability to represent our nation for MSC 2022.

“As one of the earliest pioneers in esports, Moonton Games is also excited to collaborate with KBS and ESI once again to strengthen the local gaming ecosystem,” he said.

This year’s theme for the tournament, #SupremaSEA celebrates esports supremacy by bringing top Southeast Asian athletes together to become the regional authority in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang’s competitive field.

The prize pool for the tournament this year is USD$300,000 (RM1,316,700).

Fans who wish to watch the tournament live can purchase the gold tickets priced RM35-40, while the silver tickets are RM25-30 on ticket2u.com.my. On June 11, fans can also buy tickets on site. – The Vibes, June 3, 2022.
