KUALA LUMPUR – World number five shuttler Lee Zii Jia progressed to the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Masters after defeating Dutchman Mark Caljouw 21-17, 21-14 at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta today.

In the opening set, both players were neck-and-neck, but it was Zii Jia who came out on top to take the set in 18 minutes. 

In the second set, Zii Jia took charge with a commanding lead before sealing it 21-14.

He will play either sixth-seeded Indonesian Anthony Sinisuka Ginting or Thailand’s Sitthikom Thammasin tomorrow in the quarter-finals. 

Meanwhile, women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-Thinaah Muralitharan came from a set down to defeat South Korean duo Baek Ha Na-Lee Yu Lim 21-23, 21-17, 21-15 to progress to tomorrow’s quarter-finals. 

Joining them in the quarterfinals will be men’s double duo Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin after the beat Indonesian pair Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani 23-21, 17-21, 21-9.

At the same time, world number six pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik also make it through after overcoming Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnado-Daniel Marthin in an hour-long match, ending 27-25, 21-14.

However, mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Toh Ee Wei ended their campaign after losing to Hong Kong’s world number seven duo Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet 20-22, 21-5, 21-15, while Chan Peng Soon-Cheah Yee See gave a walkover to South Koreans Seo Seung Jae-Chae Yu Jung. – The Vibes, June 9, 2022
