KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Masters 2022 will be without two of the biggest names in the badminton arena as Malaysia’s favourite Lee Zii Jia and recent Malaysia Open men’s singles champion Viktor Axelsen will not be participating tomorrow.

After causing a stir by withdrawing from the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games this month-end, Asian champion Zii Jia had reportedly confirmed with his sponsors that he would not be participating in the Super 500 event.

As the Kedahan is also skipping the Singapore Open next week, Zii Jia’s next tournament would be the World Championships in August.

Meanwhile, top seed Axelsen said in his Twitter post that he decided to “rest and recharge before I step on the court again.”

He thanked his fans, team, family, and friends for their continuous support.

Axelsen added that he needs some off days to rest and celebrate his recent wins with his family.

The Danish had recently won the Indonesian Open and Masters titles.

On the other hand, Japan’s Kento Momota decided to give it another go at the Axiata Arena as he is seeded second in the Malaysia Masters. – The Vibes, July 4, 2022
