KUALA LUMPUR – Cyclists who were left high and dry at events in Bukit Jalil earlier this month after organisers bailed out at the last minute, are being refunded. The refund process began two weeks ago, said Rise International Sports Exhibition Sdn Bhd director Lim Kee Beng.

Speaking to The Vibes, he assured that more than 90% of refunds for the “Criterium Series” and “Fun Ride with the Stars” events have been processed.

Refunds for the third cancelled event, “Enduride Challenge”, have just begun, he added.

“The refund process started on August 5 for Criterium and Fun Ride. It is almost done except for those who opted for the Ticket2u (online ticketing) refund, so they will need to wait for a bit longer.

“As for Enduride, the refund process started on Friday, but we have been having system server issues since yesterday.

“We are doing our best to get this sorted out as soon as possible,” he said.

Lim explained that Criterium, Fun Ride and Enduride were part of seven cycling events scheduled to be held on July 30 and 31 at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil.

He added that these events were not part of the Malaysia International Cycle Expo (MyCycleXpo) 2022, contrary to popular perception on social media.

“I get that many could get confused because MyCycleXpo and the cycling events happened at the same time in the same place, as both were being organised by the same organisation.

“MyCycleXpo was a cycling exhibition for manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, and retailers from local and international industry players.

“Whereas the cycling events were organised under a different event called Rise Ride Challenge Day,” Lim said.

The Vibes reported that some 500 cyclists were furious upon finding out that the organiser of the programmes they had registered for and prepared for had bailed out on them on the very day of the event.

MyCycleXpo posted an apology and explanation on its Facebook page.

Lim also claimed that they have permits for these events and shared a scanned document, hoping that it will clear the air with the public. – The Vibes, August 14, 2022
