KUALA LUMPUR – The police issued a stern warning against football hooligans ahead of the FA Cup Final between Terengganu FC (TFC) and Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) that will be happening tomorrow at Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

Following their intelligence report, Cheras police chief assistant commissioner Zam Halim Jamaluddin said they have identified several groups with the potential to cause provocations at the match.

As such, they will be positioning Federal Anti-Vice, Gambling and Secret Societies (D7) Division officers in plain clothes among the spectators.

“We will observe for any group that tries to cause any disturbances.

“We have a team from the D7 Division on standby to scan for potential threats and take photos and videos of said groups as proof,” said Zam during a press conference on FA Cup Final security measures at the stadium today.

Zam added that in the interest of national security, they could not reveal the identity of the groups.

The police will also be deploying more than 1,000 security details in and around the stadium to ensure that everyone follows the required standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The security team comprised the federal reserve unit, general operation force, air operation force, K-9-unit, mounted unit, bomb squad, and traffic investigation and enforcement division.

We are expecting more than 80,000 turnouts.

“We will increase the security inside and outside the stadium to ensure the safety and order of the fans according to the SOPs that have been set by the National Security Council and to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.”

Zam also noted that the security committee of the TFC and JDT team have been briefed to control the behaviour of their supporters and comply with the SOPs.

As a security measure, checks will also be carried out at each stadium entrance and upon entering the stadium grounds.

The inspection carried out will include body inspections as well as items brought in by the fans.

Among the items that are not allowed to be brought into the stadium are firecrackers, flares, helmets, laser pens, matches, sharp objects such as knives, liquor, umbrellas, walking sticks, power banks, and water bottles.

Banners with political messages and/or foul language are also not allowed into the stadium and will be checked at the entrance.

“We are not here for political reasons, but to watch football with high sportsmanship.

Put politics aside, support your respective team, and make sure the banner you bring is just to support your team,” Zam said.

To ensure smooth traffic throughout the match, the police advised the fans to use public transport to the stadium as there are other events taking place near the stadium – Indonesian band Dewa 19 concert at the Axiata Arena Indoor Stadium and a fun fair erected at the stadium parking lot.

Zam advised the public to put on their face masks in crowded places to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and urge them to be on their best behaviours before, during, and after the match.

In cases of any unwanted incidents, the police will not hesitate to act under section 147 or 160 of the penal code which can lead to imprisonment. – The Vibes, September 9, 2022
