KUALA LUMPUR – The 2023 Malaysia Hockey League (MHL) will take place from February 9 to March 19 next year.
The news was announced by Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) competitions committee chairman Datuk Seri Anil Jeet Singh today, who said the venue for the tournament has yet to be decided.
“We will release the calling entry by the end of this week, hopefully by Friday, November 11.
“The fixtures for the 2023 MHL will also be announced after the calling entry, which will close on December 29,” he said in a press conference at the Bukit Jalil National Hockey Stadium.
Anil said the reason for the early announcement is to allow teams to begin their preparations ahead of time and for those interested in obtaining import players.
He added that he hopes the current rise in Covid-19 cases would not hinder the league that is planned to take place early next year.
Meanwhile, Anil also announced that the National Hockey Development Programme (NHDP) International is scheduled to take be held from November 25 to December 3, 2022.
“The tournament will feature both U-14 and U-17 categories. We hoped to get it done by the end of November, but the dates had to be shifted due to the 15th general election.
“We hope other countries can send their teams to compete in the tournament despite the Covid-19 pandemic,” he added.
