KUALA LUMPUR – We’ve heard the phrase “blow the roof off”, but have you ever seen someone take the door off out of excitement?
The World Cup has kicked off in Qatar and the third match day has already seen one of the biggest upsets in the competition’s history.
Saudi Arabia stunned Argentina when they defeated the two-time World Cup winners 2-1.
The score was clearly not what most were expecting, given that Argentina is led by seven-time Ballon D’Or winner Lionel Messi.
But for Saudi supporters, the result sent them over the moon, as one video on social media showed a group of fans watching the match together when Salem Al-Dawsari scored the country’s second and winning goal.
In the video, one of the supporters is so excited that he removes a steel door from its hinges and throws it outside, obviously unable to contain his joy of seeing his country defeat one of football’s historic nations.
The win saw Saudi Arabia end Argentina’s 36-game winning streak, one short of equalling Italy’s record of 37 unbeaten matches had they avoided the defeat at Lusail Stadium.
The historic achievement also led Saudi Arabia ruler King Salman to announce that Wednesday will be a public holiday for the entire nation.
Saudi Arabia will play Poland next in their Group C campaign, while Argentina take on Mexico next. – The Vibes, November 23, 2022.
