KUALA LUMPUR – National women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah crashed out of the 2022 BWF World Tour Finals after a straight-sets loss to China’s Chen Qing Chen-Jia Yi Fan, 21-13, 21-15.
The second group stage match in Bangkok, Thailand saw the world-number-nine pair taken down in 42 minutes by the top-seeded Chinese duo.
Pearly-Thinaah lost their first Group B game yesterday against Indonesia’s Apriyani Rahayu-Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti 23-21, 21-19.
The loss today meant that the national pair would not be able to advance in the group as they are in last place with one game remaining.
Only the top two pairs from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
After the match, the pair admitted that their opponents outplayed them and kept piling on the pressure, which made it difficult for the Malaysians to stage a comeback.
“They kept pressuring us (during the match) which made it difficult for us to play our game.
“We need to review our performance and keep improving from this,” said Pearly.
Thinaah added that the pair have not regained their momentum as they were “still not satisfied with our match”.
“Hopefully we can bring out (our) best game tomorrow.”
Pearly-Thinaah will play China’s Zhang Shu Xian-Zheng Yu tomorrow in their final women’s doubles Group B match.
Even if the Malaysians win, it would not be enough to see them through to the semi-finals.
