KUALA LUMPUR – The Selangor state government has reinstated the Ulu Klang Recreation Club’s (UKRC) rights to its green lung football field and clubhouse, said outgoing club president Andrew Gopal today.
“Finally, it came to a good end on February 9, 2022, taking into account that the UKRC had earlier obtained land approval from the Selangor government on July 12, 1958,” said Gopal in a press conference.
Gopal added that the UKRC has been engaged in a long battle with the state government since April 1999 and spent a huge amount of money maintaining the green lung for about 55 years for its members and the public.
“However, as there was an appeal filed in court by UKRC against the state government and Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ), UKRC lawyers had to work with the Selangor state legal team to file a consent order pursuant to the decision made on February 9, 2022, by the state government…also, to withdraw the pending appeal in order for UKRC to reclaim its field.
“The process was completed on October 14, with the consent order being extracted from court,” Gopal explained.
At the same time, he added that UKRC lawyers gave MPAJ notice to evacuate the field by October 31 last year, and UKRC took over the field on November 1 the same year.
Gopal also thanked the state government for agreeing to resolve the land issue, which had been ongoing for 22 years, with several attempts by the previous Selangor government to develop the land.
Gopal expressed gratitude to the club’s lawyers, B. Thangaraj and Ramesh Kanapathy, for playing a key role in discussions with the Selangor state legal team to resolve UKRC’s long and painful battle with the state government. – The Vibes, January 12, 2023
