KUALA LUMPUR – The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) will not allow the appeal of 15 stall owners and wet market traders at Kg Datuk Mufti Shuib in Ampang Jaya, Selangor to postpone their relocation to a new site to January 1 next year from September 1 this year, as it has postponed the move twice.
MPAJ in a statement today said the relocation from the current site, which is located next to the Sg Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE) entryway, was supposed to be completed in March but was postponed to this month before it was then postponed to September 1.
“The need to move the site of the morning market, stalls and the wet market became more urgent when Phase 1 of SUKE started operation on September 16, 2022,” it said.
The council added that the large number of traders and customers who park by the roadside, especially on Saturday and Sunday mornings, causes traffic congestion, which also threatens the safety of road users.
The morning market is also situated on the road reserve while the stalls and wet market are on open space reserve, MPAJ said, adding these sites are close to residents’ homes.
“Besides, it was also found that the wet market building does not have approval under the Street, Drainage and Building Act (Act 133), and this situation causes MPAJ to constantly receive complaints and protests from the residents,” read the statement.
The 15 traders will be relocated to the Pandan Indah Food Court, Angsana Hilir Food Court and Tasik Tambahan Wet Market, which provides better facilities, especially parking spaces for customers.
The relocation of traders from the site was conducted in stages, of which 60 morning market traders were relocated to the new site next to the Taman Kosas field in October last year, it said. – Bernama, June 17, 2023
