KUALA TERENGGANU – Terengganu Polygon Cycling Team (TSG) sprint specialist Mohd Harrif Saleh is determined to hunt for more success this year.
After creating history as the first Malaysian rider to win the International Cycling Union (UCI) European Tour race series in Turkiye last year, the 35-year-old has set his sights on as many podium finishes as possible, starting with the first race in the United Arab Emirates next month.
"Obviously, this year’s competition will be more challenging with more races.
“However, it actually has made me determined for more victories with my teammates, many of whom are new faces,” he said when met at the team’s riders’ and sponsors’ introduction ceremony here recently.
Harrif said that even though his brother Zamri is no longer in the team due to his promotion as head coach of Akademi TSG, it does not discourage him from continuing to fight for TSG.
“Perhaps it will be a slight loss because he (Zamri) was also the captain of the team. But that is not a problem because the other teammates are always there to help,” he said.
TSG, who are lined up with 16 riders – nine Malaysians and seven imported riders – started centralised training today.
The two-week training stint will start in Kuala Terengganu and go to the northern states before Cameron Highlands, and end in Selangor.
Eight riders will leave for UAE on Jan 27 to participate in TSG’s first 2.2 class race, the Tour of Sharjah. – Bernama, January 14, 2023
