KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian national men’s hockey team have just moved up a spot in the International Hockey Federation (FIH) rankings and are now world number nine.
After defeating New Zealand 3-2 yesterday in the last group stage match, the Speedy Tigers now replace the Kiwis in the ninth spot of the world rankings.
Malaysia had moved to 10th place after beating Chile 3-2 on Monday, bouncing back after losing their opening match 4-0 to the Netherlands.

Finishing second in Group C, A. Arul Selvaraj’s men will now face Group D third place finishers Spain in a cross-over match to enter the quarter-finals.
Spain are currently ranked eighth in the FIH rankings with 2054.14 points, while Malaysia have 1969.77.
Malaysia will play Spain on Sunday at 7pm Malaysian time. – The Vibes, January 20, 2023
