KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah today granted an audience to Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin at Istana Bukit Kayangan, Shah Alam, in Selangor.

Hamidin took the opportunity to discuss current domestic football issues, including programmes involving women players and grassroots development, according to a statement issued by the FAM.

The monarch also congratulated Hamidin on his appointment as a FIFA Council member on February 1 for the term 2023-2027.

Hamidin was elected as one of the FIFA council members during the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Congress in Manama, Bahrain and became the fourth Malaysian to be a council member after Lim Kee Siong (1960), Tan Sri Hamzah Abu Samah (1972) and Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Billah Shah (2015-2019).

“The Sultan regards my appointment to the FIFA Council as unique and an outstanding achievement. His Highness also decreed that the opportunity must not only serve as a platform to develop my career but must also add value to football development in the country,” he said in a statement that was uploaded on FAM’s official Facebook.

He added that during the audience, the Sultan discussed the new stadium in Selangor that will be equipped with a sports museum and football gallery.

“Tuanku urged me to offer my views on the setting up of the museum at the new stadium. I was also asked to seek the views of the AFC and FIFA on technical aspects involving the pitch and dressing room at the new stadium,” said Hamidin who was accompanied by FAM secretary-general Noor Azman Rahman. – Bernama, February 16, 2023
