KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia earned their first gold medal at the Cambodia SEA Games after national karate exponent C. Shahmalarani bagged the women’s Under-50kg title today.
At the Chroy Changvar Convention Centre, Shahmalarani defeated the Philippines’ Junna Tsukii to defend her SEA Games title won last year in Hanoi.
Malaysia’s second gold did not come long after following S. Prem Kumar’s victory over Thailand’s Chanphet Setthapong in the men’s kumite Under-55kg event.
Earlier today, mountain biker Nur Assyira Zainal Abidin won the silver medal in the women’s cross country Olympic individual event in Siem Reap.
Malaysia’s first medal at the 32nd edition of the games came from national obstacle course athlete William Yoong Wei Theng, who won bronze in the men’s 100m event.
This was followed by Wan Athira Hidayah Ahmad Fuzil, who also took home bronze in the women’s 100m individual, although she shared the position with Indonesia’s Anggun Yolanda. – The Vibes, May 6, 2023
