SABAH Pakatan Harapan (PH) has reaffirmed that the unity government model in Putrajaya — anchored by PH, Barisan Nasional (BN), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) — should serve as an example for political cooperation in Sabah.
The leaders of Sabah PH described these alliances as the “main pillars” of the federal government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, while suggesting that similar collaboration in Sabah is both “rational” and open for discussion.
“It is rational for these two coalitions to work together in elections, including being open to discussions with other parties that uphold unity and cooperation in developing the Federation of Malaysia,” the coalition said in a statement issued from Kota Kinabalu on Friday.
Although, pointing to federal unity, Sabah PH made no firm declaration on whether it would replicate the same arrangement in the upcoming state election, particularly with GRS.
Instead, Sabah PH says they are focused on calling for political stability both federally and in Sabah, stressing the need to preserve a strong Federal-State relationship to ensure that the goals behind Malaysia’s formation and Sabah’s future can be achieved.
“PH Sabah is open to fostering unity and cooperation with other parties and believes that such political collaboration should be guided by the development of policies that prioritize the interests of the people and the future of Sabah,” it added.
The statement was jointly signed by UPKO president Datuk Ewon Benedick, DAP Sabah chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe, PKR Sabah chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, and AMANAH Sabah chairman Tuan Lahirul Latigu. - May 9, 2025
