KUALA LUMPUR – The moment thousands of Malaysians had been waiting for finally arrived today.

As the restriction on interstate travel was lifted for fully vaccinated individuals this morning, thousands of people began returning to their hometowns and villages after a protracted period away.

There was a visible surge in the flow of vehicles plying the North-South Expressway (PLUS), though not to the extent of causing any road congestion.

While traffic remained under control, there seemed to be less vehicles southbound away from Kuala Lumpur than in the northbound direction. This was particularly the case at rest and service (R&R) areas such as at Seremban.

Many stalls at the R&R stops were still closed, as some operators may have been still preparing to reopen their businesses after the prolonged closure.

Meanwhile, the terminal at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 in Sepang was not as busy as expected, though there appeared to be an increase in air travellers.

The lifting of the travel ban has allowed people to return to their respective villages. However, the sense of caution over the continued fear of Covid-19 is still pervasive, and may remain so for some time to come. – The Vibes, October 11, 2021
