Trump says the payout would be funded by the country’s economic strength - September 10, 2026

US President Donald Trump has promised a US$5,000 dividend for every adult American if Republicans retain control of the House of Representatives and Senate in November’s election, offering few details on how the proposed payout would be funded or administered.

“If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate, both of them ... because of our tremendous strength and success economically, I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000,” Reuters cited Trump saying at a Republican convention in Dallas on Wednesday.

Trump said the payment would come with a restriction requiring recipients to spend the money domestically.

“The only caveat I have is that the dividend that we're making must be spent in the United States of America,” he added.

No further details were immediately available on the proposal, including its total cost, funding mechanism or eligibility criteria. - September 10, 2026
