PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for unity among the international community to end the bloodshed and pursue just and lasting solutions to the conflict and humanitarian crisis in Gaza and tensions in West Asia.
Anwar said the issues were among the geopolitical developments he discussed with several world leaders during a BRICS summit dinner in New Delhi last night.
“During the dinner on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit last night, I had the opportunity to speak with several friends among world leaders, including the President of Egypt, the President of Indonesia, the President of Kazakhstan, the Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, the United Nations Secretary-General and the Director-General of the WTO.
“Our discussions touched on global geopolitical developments, particularly the conflict and humanitarian crisis that continues in Gaza, as well as tensions in West Asia. This situation requires unity of purpose among the international community, particularly world leaders, to stop the bloodshed and work towards just and lasting solutions,” he said in a social media post today.
Anwar said he would discuss Malaysia-Egypt bilateral ties in greater depth when Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi makes an official visit to Malaysia next month.
In a separate meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Anwar said they also discussed forest fires and developments in the West Asia conflict, which require consensus and joint action.
“With President Prabowo Subianto, we also touched on the issue of forest fires as well as developments in the conflict in West Asia, which require consensus and joint action. I also renewed my invitation for him to visit Malaysia as soon as possible so that several outstanding bilateral matters can be discussed and finalised,” he said.
The discussion on forest fires comes amid a severe fire season in Indonesia, with smoke from fires in parts of Kalimantan and Sumatra affecting neighbouring countries, including Malaysia.
Anwar arrived in New Delhi on Friday to attend the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit, which concludes today.
He will next continue his working visit to Keralam, the new official name for Kerala, on India’s Malabar Coast.
It will be his second visit to India as Prime Minister, following his first visit in August 2024.
Anwar will depart for the Maldives tomorrow. - September 13, 2026
