A MAGNITUDE 5.2 earthquake struck the New Britain region of Papua New Guinea at 9.49am local time on Sunday, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).
Xinhua reported that the earthquake occurred at 2149 GMT on Saturday, with GFZ locating the epicentre at 5.59 degrees south latitude and 151.66 degrees east longitude.
The quake occurred at a depth of 93.6 kilometres.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage.
Papua New Guinea lies along the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area prone to earthquakes and volcanic activity, resulting in frequent seismic activity across the country. - September 27, 2026
