IRAN is still awaiting an official US response to its proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said, despite President Donald Trump publicly rejecting Tehran’s seven-day roadmap.
Aljazeera reported on Sunday that Araghchi’s remarks came hours after Trump dismissed the Iranian proposal, saying Tehran was “losing so badly” and that the deal put forward by Iran was not “acceptable”.
Iran’s seven-day roadmap includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy and shipping route, as part of efforts to de-escalate the conflict.
Araghchi said, however, that Tehran had yet to receive a formal response from Washington.
The conflicting positions underscore the diplomatic impasse over the strategic waterway, through which a significant share of global oil supplies normally passes.
Trump’s rejection of the proposal leaves uncertainty over whether Washington and Tehran can reach an agreement to ease restrictions on the strait. - September 27, 2026
