SINGAPORE – Singapore yesterday registered another death due to complications from Covid-19, taking its total fatalities to 30.

The Health Ministry, in its report, said the latest victim was a 61-year-old male local, who died at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases.

Labelled Case No. 59,858, the man had been in the United Arab Emirates for work, and returned to Singapore on January 30.

He developed a cough just before departing the UAE and experienced shortness of breath the same day. He tested positive for the coronavirus upon arrival in Singapore.

The man had a history of hypertension, hyperlipidaemia and gout.

Singapore’s last virus death was reported on November 28 last year.

As of noon yesterday, the country logged eight new infections, all imported, pushing up its overall tally to 60,088.

In all, 59,961 patients have recovered, while 17 remain hospitalised, with none in intensive care.

Eighty patients with mild to no symptoms have been isolated at community facilities.

Singapore also declared a cluster contained yesterday, leaving just one still active. – Bernama, March 14, 2021
