SINGAPORE – Singapore yesterday reported another death from complications due to Covid-19, taking the cumulative number of fatalities to 31.

The republic’s Health Ministry said the latest fatality involves an 88-year-old Singaporean woman who died at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases.

Labelled as Case 62,573, the ministry said she had been warded in Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) from April 14 and was confirmed to have Covid-19 on April 28.

“She had a history of cancer, hypertension, congestive cardiac failure, stroke and hyperlipidaemia,” said the ministry.

She was among the 16 confirmed cases linked to Case 62,541 cluster, a nurse at TTSH who was confirmed to have Covid-19 on April 27.

The last fatality was reported on March 13.

Meanwhile, a 22-year-old female Malaysian was among the seven new cases of locally transmitted Covid-19 reported here yesterday.

Labelled as Case 62,686, the woman, who works as a spa therapist at Spa 9, Holland Drive, developed a runny nose on April 28 and sought medical treatment at a general practitioner clinic, where she was tested for Covid-19.

“Her test result came back positive the next day. Her serological test result has come back negative, indicating that this is likely a current infection,” said the ministry.

As at noon yesterday, 34 new cases were reported here, of which 25 were imported, with two cases residing in dormitories, bringing the total tally to 61,179.

Currently, there are nine Covid-19 clusters in the republic. – Bernama, May 2, 2021
