WASHINGTON – American biotechnology company Moderna said yesterday a study in children aged 6 to 11 found two doses of the company’s Covid-19 vaccine given 28 days apart produced a strong antibody response, said Xinhua.
The Phase 2/3 study, called the “KidCOVE study”, gave participants two 50mcg doses of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine mRNA-1273, half the dose authorised for adults.
A total of 4,753 participants aged 6 to less than 12 were enrolled in the study that aims to evaluate the safety, tolerability, reactogenicity, and effectiveness of the Moderna vaccine in kids, according to the company.
The interim analysis showed a “robust neutralising antibody response” after two doses were given 28 days apart, Moderna said.
The most common side effects include fatigue, headache, fever, and pain at the site of injection. The company said the analysis showed a “favourable safety profile”.
Moderna plans to submit this data to the United States Food and Drug Administration, European Medicines Agency, and other global regulators in the near term. – Bernama, October 26, 2021
