KUALA LUMPUR – A Mumbai-based pharmaceutical company and a Canadian biotech firm have jointly launched a nitric oxide nasal spray today to treat adults infected with Covid-19.

Marketed in India under the brand name FabiSpray, the product is used to treat those who have a high risk of the disease progressing to severe levels.

According to Economic Times, the spray developed by India’s Glenmark Pharmaceuticals and Vancouver-headquartered SaNOtize Research, had received manufacturing and marketing approval from the Drugs Controller-General of India through an expedited process.

The company indicated that FabiSpray is designed to neutralise the Covid-19 virus in the upper airways.

The spray reportedly has anti-microbial properties that have a virucidal effect, preventing the virus from incubating and spreading to the lungs by acting as a physical and chemical barrier.

“As a leading pharmaceutical player, it is important that we are an integral part of India’s fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are happy to receive regulatory approval for the nitric oxide nasal spray (FabiSpray) and launch it in partnership with SaNOtize,” Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd chief commercial officer Robert Crockart was quoted as saying.

“This reaffirms our commitment to providing yet another safe and effective antiviral treatment for Covid-19, and we are confident that it will offer patients a much needed and timely therapy option.”

Both Glenmark and SaNOtize entered an exclusive long-term strategic partnership to manufacture, market, and distribute the nitric oxide nasal spray treatment in India and regional countries.

Others in the region include Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Nepal, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam, Economic Times reported.

Meanwhile, India logged 71,365 fresh Covid-19 cases today, bringing the nation’s total caseload to 42,410,976.

According to NDTV, the country also recorded 1,217 fatalities in the last 24 hours, making the current death count at 505,279. – The Vibes, February 9, 2022
