KUALA LUMPUR – A Singapore Airlines airplane that sent an erroneous hijacking alert due to an apparent technical glitch while in mid-flight has landed safely at its intended destination in the island republic today.
A check on Flight Stats, an online tracker of flights worldwide, showed that SQ37 arrived without any reported incident at the Changi International Airport at 7.36am.
Aviation authorities were alerted to an emergency situation on board the flight just after lift-off from the Los Angeles International Airport.
According to the Daily Mail, the aircraft, which was already flying over the Pacific Ocean after it departed at midnight US Pacific time, sent out a 7500 transponder code which signifies a possible hijacking in progress.
The Daily Mail cited online flight tracker ADS-B Exchange for the information.
However, the situation appeared to be a technical malfunction or false alarm as the emergency signal was no longer received after that.
The plane proceeded on its normal course, with an expected arrival time of 7.50am.
There have been no reports of any untoward incidents on the plane and no clarification or update has been issued by the airline or the airport authorities at the time of writing. – The Vibes, June 12, 2022
