KUALA LUMPUR – Former husband of butchered Hong Kong model Abby Choi is facing seven theft charges for offences committed some 10 years ago.
According to South China Morning Post, Alex Kwong Kong-chi – who is being detained for his alleged involvement in Choi’s gruesome murder – has been accused of stealing 39 necklaces, 32 bracelets, 13 gold bars, 102 gold grains, six pendants, and 10 taels of gold.
It was reported that the offences took place between May 2013 and January 2015 in Hong Kong’s Mong Kok, Yau Ma Tei and Harbour Plaza Metropolis hotel.
He was unrepresented when he was brought to the district court today.
Chief district judge Justin Ko King-sau was quoted as saying that Kwong’s bail money has been confiscated seeing that he absconded and failed to appear in court in 2015.
Kwong, who is jobless, was then remanded pending a trial on May 9.
He is among four who were arrested last week for their alleged involvement in Choi’s murder. They have been detained since Monday without bail.
They are Kwong’s father Kwong Kau, 65, and 31-year-old brother Anthony Kwong Kong-kit – both were charged with Choi’s murder.
Kwong’s 63-year-old mother, Jenny Li Sui-heung, meanwhile, faces a charge of perverting the course of justice for allegedly destroying evidence.
Last Saturday, police found partial remains in a fridge and soup pots of a seaside house.
After a later examination of materials seized at the property, police uncovered what they believe to be Choi’s skull, hair, and several ribs.
The property where police found bodily remains was equipped with an electric saw and a meat grinder that had been used to mince human flesh. Police are still searching for missing body parts.
A forensic examination found a hole at the back of the skull that could be evidence of a fatal attack.
According to police, Choi had financial disputes with her ex-husband and his family involving a luxury property.
