SINGAPORE – The Singapore Workers’ Party today announced the resignations of its MP Leon Perera and senior party leader Nicole Seah from the party.

In its latest update on its official Facebook, the opposition party said it is following evidence of “their inappropriate relationship surfacing earlier this week”.

“While the party deeply regrets the loss of these two experienced and effective members, this action was necessary to uphold the high standards that the party believes in.

“As outlined in the party’s constitution, members are required to be honest and frank in their dealings with the party and Singaporeans,” it said.

The party had two days ago posted on Facebook that it was aware of a video clip circulating online that “suggests an inappropriate exchange between two senior party members”.

Perera is an MP for Aljunied group representation constituency while Seah was a 2020 general election candidate.

Today’s posting has also appended party secretary-general Pritam Singh’s statement related to the matter.

According to Pritam, he received Seah’s letter of resignation yesterday and received Perera’s resignation letter effective today.

“He has informed the acting speaker of Parliament that he was resigning his seat in Parliament,” added Pritam. – Bernama, July 19, 2023
