GAZA – The Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate has called upon the International Red Cross and international organisations to intervene and help ascertain the fate of two Palestinian journalists, Nidal Al-Wahidi and Haitham Abdelwahid, who have gone missing while covering the Israeli aggression on Gaza.

According to Palestinian news agency (Wafa), the syndicate, in a statement issued yesterday, expressed deep concern over the sudden disappearance of Al-Wahidi and Abdelwahid during their coverage of the developments near the Beit Hanoun military checkpoint in the northern Gaza Strip.

Contact with the two journalists has been lost, leading to grave concerns for their safety and well-being, it added.

The syndicate urged the international community and humanitarian organisations to take immediate action to ensure the safety of the missing journalists, emphasising the importance of protecting journalists and ensuring their safety as they carry out their crucial work in providing information to the public.

Wafa reported that more Palestinian civilians were killed and injured in two Israeli airstrikes that targeted two residential home in the cities of Rafah and Gaza yesterday.

Wafa correspondent said an Israeli warplane carried an airstrike on a residential building without prior warning in the Shabora neighborhood in Rafah, located in the south of the Gaza Strip.

“This attack resulted in the tragic murder and injury of ten Palestinian civilians, including children and women. The wounded were rushed to the Abu Youssef Al-Najjar Hospital in the city,” it reported.

Another Israeli airstrike targeted a residential building in the Zaytoun neighborhood in Gaza City, causing injuries to its occupants. The injured were immediately rushed to the Al-Shifa Hospital in the city.

The Israeli aggression has continued since early yesterday, leading to a significant number of casualties, injuries, and extensive damage to buildings, homes, properties, and infrastructure throughout the Gaza Strip.

The situation remains extremely dire, with civilians bearing the brunt of the ongoing Israeli attack. – Bernama, October 8, 2023
