KUALA LUMPUR – PLUS Malaysia Bhd has decided to shut down its UPM exit toll plaza on a temporary basis after a tour bus caught fire at one of its toll booths, damaging the relevant structure, early today.

In a statement issued by the toll concessionaire, the temporary shutdown was to enable its team to conduct further checks on the toll plaza’s integrity and to ensure motorists’ safety.

“As such, motorists heading southbound from (Sg Besi/Kuala Lumpur) that wish to exit the North-South Highway are advised to do so at the Kajang toll plaza.

“While motorists coming from Bangi, Nilai or heading northbound are advised to go through the Kajang or Sg Besi toll plaza prior to using an alternative route,” it said

Despite the closure of the exit toll plaza, PLUS assured that UPM’s entry toll plaza will continue to operate as per usual.

In the 6.20am incident, a tour bus ferrying 40 passengers caught fire at one of UPM’s exit toll booths.

However, the incident did not result in any injuries to the passengers, toll booth workers or any motorists.

The fire was subsequently put out by the Serdang Fire and Rescue Department several minutes later. – The Vibes, January 22, 2023
