CHINESE pressure sensor manufacturer Trensor Co Ltd is investing RM100 million to establish its first overseas production facility at Penang Technology Park in Bertam, with the project expected to generate more than RM200 million in annual sales and create 200 skilled jobs.
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, said the four-storey, 10,000-square-metre facility marked a significant milestone in the state's growing role within the global electrical and electronics (E&E) industry.
“One year ago, I was visited by Trensor’s management team at my office, shortly after they decided to establish their first overseas factory in Penang. Today, we gather to witness that strategy taking shape and becoming a concrete reality,” he said.
Trensor, a leading Chinese manufacturer specialising in pressure sensors for the automotive sector, is setting up the Malaysian subsidiary Trensor Electronics Sdn Bhd to spearhead its expansion into Southeast Asia and other global markets.
Chow noted that Trensor Electronics, incorporated in 2024, will play a pivotal role in producing automotive pressure sensors for export to key destinations including North America and Europe.
“It will focus on the production of automotive pressure sensors for export to markets such as North America and Europe,” he added.
Also present at the event were State Executive Councillor for Local Government, Town and Country Planning, Hong Mooi Lye, Trensor chairman Zhou Jingxun, and Trensor Electronics general manager Stephen Zhou Wenbo.
Chow emphasised that the investment would further strengthen Penang’s E\&E ecosystem, anchoring the state as a hub for precision engineering, automotive electronics, and high-value manufacturing.
He also underscored the importance of the semiconductor sector, citing its central role in powering technological innovations including artificial intelligence, 5G, electric vehicles, and the Internet of Things.
“Despite ongoing geopolitical developments, the sector is still expected to grow in the long term, with estimates suggesting the global semiconductor market value could reach US\$1 trillion by 2030,” Chow said.
