A GLOBAL services provider of Artificial Intelligence (AI) - enabled automation has made its debut in Penang, enhancing the state's standing as a player in the global supply chain of electrical and electronics components.
With Singapore-based Galatek Technologies setting up a production hub at the Prai Industrial Estate near Butterworth here, Penang is now wired up into a world of AI - driven automation besides just producing semiconductor chips and components.
Galatek Technologies (Galatek) marked the opening of its manufacturing, assembly and delivery facility in Penang, reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a strategic hub for advanced manufacturing and semiconductor industry development.
In a statement, InvestPenang, the catalyst agency for luring investments to the state, said that Galatex's investments signal Malaysia's entry into the hi-tech manufacturing ecosystem, driven by AI.
The facility represents Galatek’s first manufacturing footprint in Malaysia and will serve as a key production and delivery centre supporting customers across Southeast Asia and international markets.
The investment forms part of the company’s broader regional expansion strategy and long-term commitment to developing local manufacturing capabilities, talent, and supply chain partnerships.
Backed by investors including Granite Asia, Galatek has invested approximately USD$2 million in its initial Malaysian operations and plans to increase its total investment in Penang to USD$100 million within the next five years as it expands production capacity and operational capabilities.
High-end job creations would also reach up to 100 jobs in stages, from the present 30 to 40 vacancies.
The facility will focus on advanced equipment manufacturing, system integration, assembly, testing and delivery activities, supporting industries including semiconductors, advanced electronics, and life sciences.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who opened the facility yesterday, said that Galatek’s commitment to further investment and workforce expansion in Penang reflects its confidence in the state's future.
It also further reinforces Penang's reputation as the Silicon Valley of the East — a preferred destination for technology companies seeking to innovate, expand and thrive, added Chow. – June 13, 2026
