CHINESE office software provider WPS has signed four Malaysian companies as local partners as it seeks to expand its operations in the country and establish a stronger local support network.

The agreements, signed on Friday, involve Advisirs Plus Sdn Bhd, Systech Digital Solutions, Protonsonic and Global Digital.

The four companies bring experience in accounting, software development and big data, and will work with WPS on adapting its office software and services to the Malaysian market.

WPS Senior Vice-President Jiang Zhiqiang said the company would provide local customer support and training as part of its expansion, rather than relying solely on remote services.

He said the partnerships would also support WPS’s wider international expansion.

Xu Liu, Vice-President and General Manager of Global Commercial Business at Kingsoft Office, said Malaysia was an important market for the company, given the number of businesses operating across national borders.

She said companies in Malaysia frequently handled documents in English, Malay and Chinese, while sharing information across different digital platforms.

Xu said WPS would work with its local partners to adapt its products to these working environments.

Biwei Qi, Deputy General Manager of Global Commercial Business and Head of Southeast Asia B2B Business at Kingsoft Office, said the company would have local service and training teams to assist partners throughout the implementation process.

“We’re not going to work this market from a distance,” she said.

One of the four partners, Advisirs Plus, is already using WPS 365 in its accounting operations in Malaysia and Singapore.

Its chief executive officer, Hong Lim, said the platform had reduced the time spent on internal and external communications by at least 30%.

Nearly 250 members of the firm’s professional accounting team are currently using the software.

Hong said the system had helped the firm consolidate information previously spread across WhatsApp, email and other applications, making it easier for employees to retrieve records and keep track of outstanding work.

He also cited its automated meeting minutes and follow-up functions as contributing to the time savings.

“After a meeting, the AI writes up the minutes and immediately turns them into follow-up items,” he said.

The firm has also moved its internal policies, standard operating procedures and training materials to a shared Wiki, allowing employees to access information without repeatedly having to consult senior colleagues.

The partnership comes as Malaysia’s small and medium enterprise (SME) sector continues to represent a substantial market for digital service providers.

The country has nearly 1.3 million SMEs, accounting for about 96% of businesses nationwide, according to official statistics.

However, smaller businesses face practical considerations when adopting new technology, including implementation costs, data security and whether digital tools can meet their operational needs.

For companies seeking to enter this market, the challenge will be translating interest in AI into solutions that businesses can afford and use in their day-to-day operations. - October 31, 2026
