KUANTAN – The construction of a rubber glove and personal protective equipment (PPE) hub by the World Gloves International Group City and Hub Development Sdn Bhd (WGC) is set to begin in June.

To be located in the Gebeng industrial area, the facility will be built on a 128.2ha plot and involve a RM100 million investment, said Pahang Development Corporation (PKNP) CEO Mohd Faizal Jaafar.

“The construction of the first phase is scheduled for completion in December.

“This latest investment will definitely bring economic benefits to locals and the surrounding areas,” he said in a speech at the signing of a land lease agreement between PKNP and WGC here last night.

The deal was inked by Faizal on behalf of PKNP, while WGC was represented by chief executive Datuk Gianluca Ernesti. The signing was witnessed by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and state Secretary Datuk Seri Sallehuddin Ishak.

WGC is also working with International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) agency the Malaysian Institute of Automotive, Robotics and Internet of Things, which is the project’s technology partner.

The rubber gloves and PPE to be produced at the hub are targeted at markets in Europe, the United States and Southeast Asia.

Faizal said PKNP is committed to bringing more investments to Pahang, which has long been dependent on the agriculture and plantation industries.

“Since 1995, PKNP has served as a one-stop agency facilitating investors’ efforts to build factories in industrial areas in the state, not only in Kuantan, but also districts like Rompin and Maran.

“This not only benefits the people of Pahang, but also boosts the state government’s revenue, including through tax collection.”

As of last December, he said, 657 projects worth RM62.73 billion were approved in the state, with RM50.4 billion involving foreign investors.

Last year, Miti approved 30 projects in the state, involving RM4.78 billion in investments and the creation of some 2,600 jobs, he added. – Bernama, April 6, 2021
