PETALING JAYA – Teras Teknologi Sdn Bhd (Teras) has appointed Anwar Ishak as its new Chief Executive Officer as it embarks on a new journey that will place the organisation at the forefront of toll industry digitalisation and also bring it into adjacent industries with new technologies.

Anwar, who graduated with a Master of Engineering in Computer Systems and Electronics from King’s College of London, has over 20 years of experience in the digital, tech start-up, and telecommunications space.

Anwar was instrumental in developing and strengthening the technological aspect of various new media agencies, including an aviation start-up in the UK, where he successfully developed a web-based airport passenger and baggage boarding system, loyalty programs, and cashless payment systems, which are widely adopted and implemented by United Kingdom-based and worldwide clients.

In 2017, Anwar returned to Malaysia to head the Digital IT function of Digi Telecommunications, where his key responsibility was to drive the digitalisation of the telco from a technological perspective, which included transforming the methods of working, managing expenditures, managing digitalisation strategies as well as research and development for new businesses.

I am excited to join Teras at a time when RFID will be the catalyst of change for the logistics industry. As Malaysia’s focus is now on reviving its economy through the development of key infrastructure including the highways, I am overwhelmed by the endless possibility of the sustainability culture of PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) in ensuring technology and the Internet of Things (IoT) remains at the forefront of what we do, improving lives as we adapt to the new normal.

"I believe with the technological expertise of Teras, PLUS will be able to stamp its position as the leader and lift the highway industry to greater heights through its digitalization adaptation,” exclaimed Anwar.

As the new CEO of Teras, Anwar will also be a member of the senior executive leadership of PLUS, where he will be working alongside other C-suites to ensure that digitisation efforts will be sustainable and will promote growth within the company.

In addition, Datuk Azman Ismail, Teras’ chairman, said that Anwar’s appointment reflects the commitment of the company in ensuring PLUS continues to lead in the highway industry. Anwar is expected to enhance PLUS’ efforts to strengthen innovation beyond toll collection with the aim of modernizing the existing expressway and tolling systems, in line with the nation's aspiration to increase public-private partnership as outlined in the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12). – Bernama, October 12, 2021
