KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has appointed Datuk Seri Md Alwi Che Ahmad as its non-executive chairman for two years, effective today.
MDEC said Alwi – who is also assemblyman for Kok Lanas, Kelantan – has held various top positions in the government, including serving as political secretary to the youth and sports minister, 1990-1992; political secretary to the rural development minister, 1993-1999; and political secretary to the prime minister, 2007-2009.
“A leading figure in poverty eradication, he has been serving as chairman of Yayasan Kemiskinan Kelantan since 1993,” the agency said in a statement.
Alwi has also held multiple corporate positions, including as chairman at Silver Ridge Bhd, 2004-2008; Syarikat Permodalan Risda Bhd, 2006-2016; and Kemubu Agricultural Development Authority, 2014-2018. He has been a board member at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia since last year.
A professional licensed land surveyor, Alwi is a principal of AA Geomatics and Survey Consultants Firm and a fellow of the Institute of Surveyor Malaysia, said the agency. – Bernama, December 1, 2021
