BATU KAWAN – A company based here is aiming to become a global leader in the manufacturing of personal protective equipment (PPE) within five years.

Iconic Worldwide Bhd, through its wholly owned subsidiary Iconic Medicare Sdn Bhd, said this is a possibility as there is a continuous demand for the product.

Its managing director Datuk Tan Keat Tet said the evolution of the coronavirus, which led to the emergence of new variants, is expected to maintain demand for nitrile gloves and masks.

“Although Iconic Worldwide is relatively new in the PPE manufacturing market, the international recognition received from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently makes us one of the beneficiaries of this continued demand for PPE.”

He said this at the launch of the Iconic Medicare plant here today. The ceremony was launched by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Located on about 5.5 acres of land in Batu Kawan Industrial Park, the factory started manufacturing gloves and masks last September.

On December 14, the company secured a 510(k) premarket notification approval from the FDA to distribute its medical-grade gloves in the US.

Iconic Worldwide has also obtained International Organisation for Standardisation and European Union’s CE certificationsfor its nitrile gloves and medical mask, all of which will enable the company to export its products worldwide.

Tan said in the third and fourth quarters of the current financial year, Iconic Worldwide will ship out approximately 500 million pieces of nitrile gloves to the US, Europe, Africa, Middle East and Southeast Asia

“Once our 12 glove production lines and 20 mask production lines are fully operational, we expect to generate a potential revenue and profit to the company for years to come.”

Iconic Worldwide also has business in the tourism and property sectors. – The Vibes, January 15, 2022
