BUKIT KAYU HITAM – Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammed Sanusi Md Nor wants the infrastructure at the Kulim Hi-Tech Park to be upgraded as the state expects some 150,000 workers to operate there by 2035.
It will start with expanding the Gerik-Kulim road into a dual carriageway as the traffic volume is expected to increase in tandem with the growth in the manufacturing sector.
It is understood that there are now about 70,000 workers employed in the industrial park.
Sanusi has submitted to the federal government plans to expand the single roads, which snake through the industrial park to have double lanes.
The park is home to household names such as Intel and Abbot Manufacturing Sdn Bhd.
“We have put in a request for road expansion within Kulim in anticipation of the number of workers there reaching 150,000 people by 2035,” he said after launching Phase 1 of KT Express Logistics Sdn Bhd’s e-commerce and logistics terminal here yesterday.
The park has already achieved about RM20 billion in foreign direct investments here in the first quarter of this year, exceeding the annual target of RM10 billion, he said.
As Kedah embraces industrialisation, Sanusi spoke of the need to ensure that the infrastructure and human capital meet the expectations of the investors.
The e-commerce terminal is part of a RM1 billion pledge by KT Express to develop Kedah’s first full-fledged e-commerce and logistics hub terminal for road users.
The project will be completed in the next five years.
Under the second phase, a hi-tech e-commercial building equipped with green technology, robotics, a courier tracking system and an auto-conveyer belt are scheduled for construction. – The Vibes, May 28, 2022
