KUALA LUMPUR – Social enterprise GivingHub has launched a home baking programme known as Recipe for Success aimed at encouraging women in the B40 income group to turn their skills and passion into business initiatives.

The group said in a statement that international confectioner Mars Wrigley will allow bakers to promote their products through its digital and social media channels, helping to generate a sustainable income source.

“Our focus is on investing in the holistic development of the participants’ skill set so they are able to cultivate entrepreneurship and embark on their own personal journey of growth, ambition and freedom to be independent,” said GivingHub managing director Chun Wah Hoo.

Held at the Pastry Pro facility here, the pilot programme – supported by Mars Wrigley – was conducted last Sunday for 50 baking enthusiasts from the Taman Wahyu People’s Housing Programme.

Mars Wrigley is the manufacturer of iconic snacks such as Snickers and Skittles, with its products distributed in more than 180 countries.

Recipe for Success kicked off with a beginner’s class by culinary consultant C.Y. Phang, who created two unique snack recipes using Maltesers and M&M’s.

As an additional component, participants were also provided lessons on food photography as well as access to a digital marketing module series to be led by digital strategist and consultant Gray Ham.

The curation of desserts from the programme also introduced beneficiaries to useful guidelines pertaining to nutritional values, recommended serving sizes and responsible marketing principles to consumers.

“These guidelines are especially important today given the nature of treats and snacks, which should be consumed in moderation and as part of an overall balanced lifestyle,” the statement said.

Besides that, Mars Wrigley said as an organisation driven by a strong sense of purpose and social commitment, it believes in focusing on creating better communities around the world by giving people opportunities to flourish.

“Mars Wrigley is constantly looking for new ways and opportunities to create positive societal impact,” said the company’s general manager for West Asia, Ursula Irvin.

She added that the manufacturer was pleased to collaborate with GivingHub to empower the urban poor and deserving individuals to elevate their livelihoods through Recipe for Success. – The Vibes, August 24, 2022
