'GELAK: GEMPAK' is a new reality show from Astro in collaboration with LOL Asia that is in the form of a talent search competition for the top stand-up comedian in the country.
This 10-episode programme will air every Friday, at 9pm starting February 5, 2021 on Astro Warna HD (107) and Astro Warna (127). For more other options, the program can also be streamed for free for Astro customers through the Astro GO application and on demand.
Norzeha Mohd Salleh, Astro Warna Channel Manager said, "As is known, the stand-up comedy genre or the comedy industry has an audience that is mostly present in the urban communities.
“As a leader in comedy content that is able to reach a wider audience, we at Astro Warna are very excited to work with LOL Asia for the production of the 'Gelak: Gempak' competition in order to bring comedy to a wider audience and bring out new talent as the backbone of the industry.
“The success of Astro-born comedians who have made a name for themselves as key players in the country's art industry such as Nabil Ahmad, Jihan Muse, Zizan Razak and Johan has been a catalyst for us to continue to produce a variety of comedy content for our audience.”
Each participant will be judged based on 100% scoring by a professional jury consisting of big names in the comedy industry including Datuk Afdlin Shauki, Sherry Alhadad and Nabil Ahmad.

All jurors will evaluate the participants based on the level of creativity, stage performance and content of jokes.
Meanwhile, renowned comedian Prakash Daniel will appear as the guest coach for the participants.
To enliven 'Gelak: Gempak', Harith Iskander and Douglas Lim have also been invited as jurors and guest mentors.
The overall winner will take home a cash prize worth RM25 thousand donated by Astro, while the second and third place contestants will receive RM7 thousand and RM3 thousand, respectively.
A trophy will also be awarded to the three winners.
'Gelak: Gempak' is also supported by Zawak Lawak who is present under the umbrella of the Gempak brand as the Official Digital Partner.
