ORGANISED by the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in Malaysia and produced by INXO Arts & Culture (L) Foundation, the upcoming Tea Philo e-talk titled “Phantasmapolis: Toward Asian Arts Futurism” features speaker Takamori Nobuo from Taiwan.

The e-talk will be held in English and broadcast via Zoom Meeting on June 11 welcoming viewers from all around the world to tune in

Tea Philo is a series of sharing sessions revolving around the discussion of philosophies and humanities. Luminaries from Taiwan are invited to share their experiences and engage with the Malaysian audience to encourage cultural exchange.

In this session, Takamori Nobuo, a Taiwanese independent curator, will share his curatorial work based on the introduction of the 2021 Asian Art Biennial: Phantasmapolis, which was organised by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts and co-curated by the speaker.

2021 AAB Phantasmapolis is a project that aims to evoke the hidden context of futurism in Taiwanese and Asian art histories. The complex networks of curation themselves are also evidence that artistic practices of the past connect with experimental possibilities in the future.

Along with introducing 2021 AAB, the talk will also focus on how participating artists from Southeast Asia reflect their understanding of this topic and what "future" means to Southeast Asian cultures and societies.

Takamori Nobuo is a Taiwanese independent curator of Japanese descent, based in Taipei, Taiwan. He is also the Assistant Professor at Taipei National University of Arts (part-time position).

For more than a decade, Takamori’s curatorial work and research project aims to evoke the hidden linkage between Taiwan and Southeast Asia. This is done by means of a practical exchange project to foster the interaction of contemporary art from both sides.

Takamori’s notable projects include the Taiwan International Video Art Exhibition 2014 “The Return of Ghosts” (Hong Gah Museum, Taipei) and “The Secret South: from Cold War Perspective to Global South in Museum Collection” (2020, Taipei Fine Arts Museum).

This e-talk will be moderated by Yap Sau Bin, a Malaysian artist, curator and educator. Yap teaches at the Faculty of Creative Multimedia, Multimedia University, Malaysia. He is a member of Rumah Air Panas [RAP], an artist initiative based in Kuala Lumpur.

His practice encompasses conceptual work, installation, mapping and curatorial projects, both locally and abroad.
