BON Jovi founding member and bassist Alec John Such has died, he was 70. His death was confirmed on Twitter on Sunday afternoon by the band, though the details behind his passing remain unclear.

"We are heartbroken to hear the news of the passing of our dear friend Alec John Such," said the official Bon Jovi Twitter account.

Tributes came pouring in on social media, who shared the stage with legendary and noteworthy musical acts over the course of a decades-long career.

Jon shared the original tweet and wrote: "Alec, you will be missed."

Founding member and band keyboardist David Bryan wrote: "RIP my soul brother…. It was an honor and pleasure to share the stage and to share life with you….."

Bon Jovi was formed in New Jersey in 1983 and has had hits with songs including Livin' On a Prayer, Wanted Dead or Alive, It’s My Life, among others.

Such parted ways with the band in 1994, citing burnout, and was replaced by bassist Hugh McDonald.

The group reunited when Bon Jovi was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. During the ceremony, Such spoke fondly of his time with the band, saying, "(I) love them to death. I always will."

"When Jon Bon Jovi called me up and asked me to be in his band many years ago, I soon realised how serious he was and he had a vision that he wanted to bring us to. And I'm only too happy to have been a part of that vision," he said in his speech.

Bon Jovi is one of the most influential American rock bands of all time, having sold more than 130 million records worldwide over the decades. – The Vibes, June 6, 2022
