THE Transformers universe is growing larger with the addition of Michelle Yeoh and Pete Davidson. The pair will be voicing roles for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the latest instalment to the franchise from Paramount.

‘Rise of the Beasts’ director Steven Caple Jr shared the news on Instagram of the actors joining the production. The director was tapped for the production after the success of Creed II.

While Bumblebee took place in 1987, Rise of the Beasts will bring the ‘Transformers’ franchise into the 1990s.

Plots are under wraps, but the film will be introducing more characters, including the Maximals and Terrorcons, two other cybernetic alien groups that will have to pick a side in the battle between Autobots and Decepticons.

Michelle Yeoh will be voicing a character named Airazor, while Pete Davidson voices Mirage. The two join a cast that includes Anthony Ramos and Dominque Fishback in live-action roles. Ron Perlman also stars in the film as the voice of Optimus Primal, the leader of the Maximals.

Within ‘Transformers’ lore, Yeoh’s character, Airazor, is a member of the Maximals, said to be the descendants of the Autobots. Airazor can transform into a falcon-like machine.

Mirage is an autobot that has previously appeared in Paramount’s ‘Transformers’ films, voiced by the late actor Francesco Quinn in 2011’s ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’.

‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ is the first film in the franchise since 2018’s ‘Bumblebee’, which was a prequel- spinoff to the Michael Bay series.

Entertainment One, Hasbro’s entertainment studio, will be executive producing ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beast’, and SkyDance is co-financing and executive producing. New Republic Pictures is also co-financing and executive producing.

The film is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Michael Bay, Mark Vahradian and Duncan Henderson and is set to hit theatres on June 9 next year. – The Vibes, October 13, 2022
