THE Sarawak Education Department has started distributing Jalur Gemilang badges to students in all primary and secondary schools, colleges and institutions in the state.
At least 900,000 students in Sarawak will be getting these badges for free to be worn on their uniforms, said State Education Director Omar Mahli.
"The students will receive two free badges each to be worn on their uniforms near their school badge.
"The initiative is by the national Education Ministry to instil patriotism and pride for our country.
"In Sarawak there are some 900,000 students in government schools and government aided schools.
"Each student will get two badges free for this school year," he told the media.
The distribution in the schools started in Kuching and will be done throughout all urban and rural schools statewide.
Omar said the ministry is confident that students will cultivate a greater sense of national pride with the Jalur Gemilang on their uniform.
It will remind them of their national identity, he added. – April 22, 2025
