MIRI – Form 5 students in Sarawak have shown overall improvement in their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) for 2020 results despite the challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The good news is sweetened by the fact that this improvement in Sarawak was found not only among SPM students in urban schools, but also in schools in rural districts.

The state Education Department is pleased with the overall SPM 2020 results in this state,” said its director Norisah Suhaili.

“The passing rate for students in the SPM exam in the state has improved by 3.22% in SPM 2020 as compared to SPM 2019.

“For SPM 2020, the passing rate in Sarawak is 87.83% as compared to 84.61% in SPM 2019, which is an increase of 3.22%.

“Students in both urban and rural districts showed overall improvement,” she said in a press statement here today.

Norisah said the number of SPM 2020 students who scored excellent results had also increased compared to the year before.

The respective schools are still compiling the data of students who scored straight As.
