KANGAR – There are 26 teachers out of the 4,710 in Perlis still refusing the Covid-19 vaccine, said education exco Rozieana Ahmad.

She said they are being persuaded to get immunised before schools reopen starting October.

“We need to coax them (to get vaccinated) to ensure schooling runs smoothly, and particularly, the safety of students,” she told reporters here.

The Pauh assemblyman said the 26 teachers are “not ready” to get the jab due to various reasons including chronic illness.

“I’m appealing to them to take into account their students, to prevent these children from falling behind.”

There were 91 teachers who refused the vaccine previously, but after discussions, 65 agreed to get the shot, she said.

As of today, 206 teachers in the state have yet to be vaccinated. – Bernama, August 25, 2021
